We buy your meat all the time. I was wondering, what company do you purchase your meat from?
We use many different companies. Our main meat source for Beef and Pork is Excell. The Beef is a very high end of Choice and the Pork is the Tenderchoice brand which is the best of their pork line. Chicken is mainly Smart Chicken which is air chilled instead of water chilled. This will allow the chicken not to absorb extra moisture and also not absorb water from the other birds. This is a more sanitary method of cooling. Since we train our own meatcutters and meat staff you are assured of proper cutting techniques and quality each and every time you purchase from us. < Dale

How did you get the name Harter House?
Great question; Here is what I know as a long term employee over 25 years and established from the first Harter House store located at Sunshine and Grant across from then K-Mart. Tony Harter and his father-in-law Charlie Shaup were the first to start Harter House. I believe Charlie was the meat man and Tony just learning. Charlie developed some leg problems after 6 months in business and had to quit or slow down. The business was sold to Jerry & Barbara Bettlach and the rest is history. Shortly Jerry and Barbara bought and moved into the Harter House on Campbell st. in the old Enyerts restaurant, now the Springfield Catholic Credit Union. ~ Dale Dothage
