and beyond to help me find the hazelnuts I needed for a recipe… he
searched through mixed nuts, picking out the hazelnuts, all because they
weren’t available by themselves anymore. Wow. So many employees would just
say, “Sorry, ma’m, no hazelnuts.” What customer service, and what a
dedicated employee.

I just wanted to say thank you and how appreciative I am to one of your employees, Gay Wheatley. Today as I was getting ready to leave Harter House on Eastgate, my car would not start. Mr. Wheatley not only helped me get the battery jumped, he offered to drive me and my girls home if we couldn’t get it started. Than…ks to him and a couple of helpful customers my car is now safely back home.

I just want to compliment your store on the fantastic customer service! My family recently moved to Nixa from Detroit. I decided to check out all the grocery stores before I picked “my” store. By far Harter House exceeded my expectations and will be the store I shop at. The butchers, stockers, cashiers, and baggers were all very friendly and helpful. The bagger pushed my cart to my car and even offered to load them. Thanks for the great shopping experience, it made my day!

We buy your meat all the time. I was wondering, what company do you purchase your meat from?

We use many different companies. Our main meat source for Beef and Pork is Excell. The Beef is a very high end of Choice and the Pork is the Tenderchoice brand which is the best of their pork line. Chicken is mainly Smart Chicken which is air chilled instead of water chilled. This will allow the chicken not to absorb extra moisture and also not absorb water from the other birds. This is a more sanitary method of cooling. Since we train our own meatcutters and meat staff you are assured of proper cutting techniques and quality each and every time you purchase from us. < Dale

Yes we do! It makes great jambalaya.....thanks for thinking of us at Harter House....Randy

How did you get the name Harter House?

Great question; Here is what I know as a long term employee over 25 years and established from the first Harter House store located at Sunshine and Grant across from then K-Mart. Tony Harter and his father-in-law Charlie Shaup were the first to start Harter House. I believe Charlie was the meat man and Tony just learning. Charlie developed some leg problems after 6 months in business and had to quit or slow down. The business was sold to Jerry & Barbara Bettlach and the rest is history. Shortly Jerry and Barbara bought and moved into the Harter House on Campbell st. in the old Enyerts restaurant, now the Springfield Catholic Credit Union. ~ Dale Dothage
